Banks disburse Rs 433-cr crop loans to farmers

Various banks of both co-operative and nationalized banks in the district have, so far, released Rs 433 crore as crop loan to 1.25 farmers in the district during the current sowing season.
According to sources, the Yavatmal District Central Co-Operative Bank has topped the banking sector to extend loan facilities to the needy farmers. However, three nationalised banks had not thought it is necessary to file their information with the district collector despite repeated demands.
The co-operative banks, nationalized banks and the Gramin Bank have jointly set their target of Rs 522 crore as crop loan for the current Kharif sowing and Rs 433 crore has so far been released to 1.23 lakh farmers across the district, the sources said. YDCC Bank has topped the banks by releasing Rs 300.17 crore out of its annual target of Rs 311.64 crore.
Gramin Bank has also played a key role in the loan disbursement matter. However, the Union Bank, Allahabad Bank and IDBI bank keep a slow pace in this regard.
The district collector has recently sought the details of crop loan disbursement of all the banks in the district.
Surprisingly, the local authorities of the Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank and Punjab National Bank do not feel it necessary to file such information with the district collector.
