United Bank Enters Credit Card Mart

Our Bureau BUSINESS STANDARD

The Kolkata-based United Bank of India is banking on its 13,000 strong employees strength for its new credit card business to take off. The business was launched with much fanfare on Saturday.

The chairman of the bank Madhukar said that the card comes with a whole lot of discounts and benefits specially for its employees.

As an introductory offer, joining fees for its employees has been waived for UBI employees while they also get an add-on card free of cost. Employees of the bank will also be able to enjoy facilities like reduced interest rates on certain product categories as an initial offer.

Launched in three categories, the cards also provide cash withdrawal facility to the tune of 100 per cent of credit limit in certain cases.

The card launched in collaboration with SBI Cards will be accepted at all SBI automated teller machines as well as Visa ATMs across the globe. This provides UBI credit cards an edge over other cards in the sense that other Visa cards are not accepted at SBI ATMs providing UBI an unique advantage of more acceptability.

Initially the UBI Card will be issued from six locations which will be increased to around 20 and 42 gradually, explained Madhukar. The chairman however said the card will be made available at all its branches leaving aside the rural ones, which will be covered at a later stage.
