Clarification on Central Grant to West Bengal

No reduction in rehabilitation package for returnees from Indian Enclaves in Bangladesh

The Ministry of Home Affairs had received a proposal of Rupees 3,008.89 crore for rehabilitation of returnees from Indian Enclaves in Bangladesh and development of infrastructure in Bangladeshi Enclaves in India.

MHA had agreed to incur an expenditure of Rs.2,625.06 crore out of which Rs.774 crore as fixed cost towards development of infrastructure and Rs.1,851.06 crore as variable cost depending on the number of returnees opting to come to India.

The Ministry has noticed certain media reports hinting at reduction of central grant in relation to transfer of enclaves from Bangladesh to India. It is hereby clarified that there is no change in the position earlier communicated by MHA to the State Government on June 3, 2015.
