The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will host the International Symposium on Excellence in Public Service / Public Administration in New Delhi on October 7 & 8, 2014. Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions and Prime Ministers Office will inaugurate the symposium.
The aim of the International Symposium is to showcase global best practices in public administration and public service delivery. The objectives are to foster a spirit of excellence in public administration, disseminate and learn from the innovative best practices and extraordinary achievements in improving public administration and governance, and facilitate replication of high impact initiatives.
Speakers from around 25 countries will present their best practices and reform initiatives. These countries include: Bangladesh, Brazil, Bahrain, Canada, Dubai, Ethiopia, Ecuador, Ghana, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Nigeria, Peru, Pakistan, Senegal, Singapore, Tanzania, Turkey, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, and Uruguay.
The Symposium will be structured around select themes including:
Global Best Practices in Public Administration Reforms
Improving the delivery of public services
Advancing knowledge management in Government/Promoting whole of Government approaches in the Information age
Promoting Gender Responsive delivery of Public Services
Improving transparency, accountability and responsiveness in Public Service
Participants will include senior officers/representatives from Central and State Government, International Organizations, Central and State Training Institutions etc.
DARPG and UNDP have identified these global best practices largely from the United Nations Public Service Awards (UNPSA) and Commonwealth Association for Public Administration and Management (CAPAM) Awards. The best practice examples of broader public administration reform (across Departments or whole of government) have been identified through UNDPs research and global knowledge base.
