IIIT-B to offer 40 scholarships

The International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIIT-B) will offer more than 40 scholarships next academic year for MTech students.
All the scholarships are industry funded and will take care of the entire course fee, which is about Rs 2 lakh.
Earlier, the IIIT-B was offering only 10 scholarships as against a total intake of 120 MTech students.
"The number of scholarships have gone up significantly since more companies are participating in the programme. The best part of this scholarship is that students are not bound to work in the sponsoring company once they complete the course," IIIT-B Director S Sadagopan said on Thursday.
The companies participating in the industry funded scholarship programme include NXP Semiconductors, Intel, Crompton Greaves and SAP.
"IBM, HP, Motorola, Microsoft are likely to join before March. We expect more companies to join the programme in the coming months as they are evincing interest," he added.
The IIIT-B, which was started in 1999, also offers MS (Research) and PhD programmes. At present, 11 students are pursuing PhD and scholarships are being offered by Infosys, Siemens, HP, Intel and Motorola.
"In the coming years, we expect more participation from companies to offer scholarships to these programmes also," Sadagopan said.
The institute, now a deemed university, will graduate the 1000th MTech student in July.
It had student exchange programmes with Singapore and French Reunion Island from 2000 onwards. It will sign a partnership with University of Kaiserslautern, Germany to develop a joint degree programme. Three selected students will be eligible to spend a part of their study duration at the University of Kaiserslautern.
