Transco gains Rs 807cr through better management

The Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (APTransco) on Sunday claimed that the state power utilities have gained around Rs 807 crore this financial year due to improved revenues and better financial and operational management practices as compared to an additional burden of around Rs 690 crore registered during the same period.
According to a press release, the major factors for the increased revenue include reduction in theft of energy, transmission and distribution losses, increased industrial sales and debt-swapping.
The growth in industrial consumption was over 22 per cent (HT-1 category) during 2004-05 as compared to the previous year's consumption.
Improved service, reduction in tariffs and attractive incentives have helped the industrial consumption go up, the press release said.
The four distribution companies besides APTransco, have for the first time, ensured full payment to all generators for their current bills in 2004-05.
The timely payment to the central generating stations has helped in reaping benefits under securitisations of Rs 106 crore. Further, timely payment to generators helped the power utilities in getting rebates of Rs 86 crore.
Similarly, effective grid management has helped in reducing the power cost to the extent of Rs 115 crore and an amount of Rs 65 crore was saved due to effective administrative measures as per Aggregate Revenue Requirement targets and another Rs 95 crore has been saved on account of a debt-swapping measure.
