In spite of former Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal's political pitch on power tariffs, raised a few months ago, the city's consumers are set to shell out more for electricity. This is because the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has allowed distribution companies (discoms) to recover dues from the years when retail tariff increase was disallowed - referred to as regulatory assets (RAs).

The regulator has worked out a plan to allow the city's three private discoms recovery of dues totalling Rs 8,000 crore over eight years beginning 2014-15. As part of this, the discoms will recover Rs 1,671 crore of RAs from consumers through tariff in the first year.
 

The three private discoms being Tata Power, Reliance Infrastructure promoted BSES Yamuna Pvt Ltd (BYPL), Rs 769 crore for BSES Rajdhani Pvt Ltd (BRPL). The stocks will be in focus today.

Jet Airways

Jet Airways will in focus after Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways denied violating takeover rules while buying a 24 per cent stake in Naresh Goyal’s Jet Airways.

In a reply to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), the foreign airline has said it is not liable to make an open offer for the public holding in Jet as there has been no violation of the takeover code.

Etihad’s main contention is the deal was cleared by both the securities market regulator and the Competition Commission of India  before it was served a notice by Sebi in February. The airline had to reply to the notice within 21 days, failing which it could be asked to make an open offer.

Reliance Industries

Mukesh Ambani promoted energy major Relinace Industries will be in focus after a notice was served to RIL following a public interest litigation that accused RIL of hoarding gas from the KG-basin.

Ranbaxy Laboratories

Ranbaxy Laboratories after reports emerged that the company has recalled some batches of its generic version of cholesterol-lowering Lipitor drug in the US after a dosage mix-up was detected.

According to the report, the company voluntarily recalled 64,626 bottles containing atorvastatin calcium (generic Lipitor) tablets after a pharmacist found a 20-mg tablet in a sealed bottle marked for 10-mg tablets, an enforcement report posted on the FDA’s website said.
