Educomp Solutions eyes 10% mrkt share in Gujarat

E-learning service provider, Educomp Solutions Ltd., is eyeing a 10 per cent pie of multimedia applications market in schools of Gujarat in first year of its operations. The company has launched its Smart Class programme, a digital interactive system enabling school students to learn through multimedia, in the state.
“There are around 1,000-1,200 private English medium schools in Gujarat that we are targeting for our Smart Class programme. We are aiming at an at least 10 per cent market share by March 2009,” said Gulzaar Ravjee, assistant vice president at Educomp. Currently, over one million students across 1,200 schools in India use Educomp’s Smart Class programme.
Smart Class offers 3D kindergarten to 12th grade (K-12) content library with over 35,000 modules aligned to Indian and international learning standards. Educomp invests around $ 1.5 million (Rs 7 crore approx.) annually on research and development (R&D).
With already 7,000 schools across India, the US and Singapore having partnered with Educomp, the company has now entered Gujarat. “Typically, the project cost of Smart Class can go from a few lakhs to over one crore and we are hopeful of doing a good business in Gujarat,” added Ravjee.
Schools can either opt for an interactive digiboard that allows a teacher to project images, animations and videos on a large touchscreen panel as well as write with virtual ink on the board with an electric pen or choose an LCD display.
