India No. 3 In Textile Exports

Despite maintaining its position among the top ten producers of clothing and textiles in the world, Indian exports have been steadily losing market share in the European Union due to competition from other Asian countries and east European countries.
In 2001, India has retained its third position in textiles but Turkey and China have increased their market share from 10.9 per cent to 11.7 per cent, and 10.6 per cent to 10.7 per cent, respectively.
In value terms, total textiles exports from India for 2000 were 1,931.2 million euros and in clothing it was 2,003.4 million euros. Other major exporters to the EU include US, Switzerland, Pakistan, South Korea and Taiwan. Japan and Indonesia are also occassional exporters to the EU.
