Maize prices up 5.1% from last week on high demand: USGC

Maize prices rose by 5.1% to Rs 10,598 per tonne on high demand, a US Grains Council (USGC) report has said.
Maize prices were ruling at Rs 10,083 per tonne last week, according to the USGC report. On annual basis, the prices this week are 16.4% higher than the price in the year-ago period.
Prices of maize rose in Maharashtra by 8.61% to Rs 10,715 per tonne, in Andhra Pradesh by 6.86% to Rs 10,292 per tonne, Uttar Pradesh by 4.73% to Rs 10,933 per tonne, in Karnataka by 4.36% to Rs 10,936 and by 1.53% to Rs 10,963 per tonne in Rajasthan.
Spot prices of maize in key markets were also up.
While maize prices fell in Tamil Nadu by 4.06% to Rs 10,460 per tonne, in Gujarat they were down marginally by 0.45% to Rs 10,838 per tonne.
Prices in Davangere rose by 6.11% to Rs 12,150 per tonne, rates in Nizamabad rose by 3.11% to Rs 12,311 per tonne and by 2.63% to Rs 12,275 per tonne in Karimnagar.
