Oilmeal exports slip 34% in Q1

| The export of oilmeals for the first quarter of 2005-2005 between April and June is reported to have declined by 34 per cent, according to data from the Solvent Extractor's Association of India (SEA). |
| The data said that exports between April and June 2005 were down at 7,18,275 tonne compared with 10,83,900 tonne during the same period of last year. The export for the month of June, however, has increased by 16 per cent to 2,11,525 tonne from 1,82,550 tonne last year. |
| During the first quarter, soybean meal export fell nearly by 50 per cent, while rapeseed meal maintained almost the same share. Similarly, groundnut meal exports also declined while castorseed meal exports exports picked up. Castorseed meal is mainly exported to Taiwan and South Korea. Ricebran extraction export has also revived after long time. |
| South East Asia is the major market for Indian oilmeals. To check the overall declining trend and promote oilmeals export from India; SEA is deputing a 15-member delegation to Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam and Thailand during middle of August 2005 to meet the leading feed millers and importers of oilmeals. |
| The export from Kandla is reported at 4,36,250 tonne comprising 52 per cent of the exports followed by Mumbai which handled 137,200 tonne (19 per cent). |
