Potato rises 0.7% on spot demand

Restricted arrivals influence prices

Press Trust of India New Delhi

Potato prices rose by Rs 4.90 to Rs 705 per quintal in futures trading today as traders enlarged positions on hopes of a rise in demand during the festive season.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in April rose by Rs 4.90, or 0.70%, to Rs 705 per quintal, with a business turnover of four lots.

March potato edged up by Rs 2.30, or 0.32%, to Rs 730.20 per quintal, with a business turnover of 20 lots.

Marketmen said besides pick up in spot market demand due to the festive season, restricted arrivals from producing regions influenced potato futures.
