The Sensex opened with a negative gap of 105 points at 14,557, and soon slipped to a low of 14,471. The index has slipped deeper into red and is now down 192 points at 14,470.
Reliance and ONGC have plunged 2.3% each to Rs 2,033 and Rs 1,052, respectively.
Grasim, DLF and Reliance Infrastructure have dropped around 2% each to Rs 2,006, Rs 493 and Rs 1,016, respectively.
HDFC, Tata Power and BHEL have slipped over 1.5% each to Rs 2,282, Rs 1,032 and Rs 1,684, respectively.
Hindalco, NTPC, Mahindra & Mahindra, Wipro and Hindustan Unilever were down around 1.5% each.
Sterlite, however, has gained 1% at Rs 513.
