Uti Npa At 8.28% Of Total Assets

The Unit Trust of India (UTI) had non performing assets (NPA) of Rs 3,485 core at the end of December 2001, or 8.28 per cent of the total assets of Rs 42,105 crore. The current NPAs are spread across 38 schemes which have investments in 8,481 securities. Information available from UTI as on December 31, 2001 shows that its investments in as many as 1,155 debt securities turned into NPAs on account of non-payment of either capital or interest.

UTI's flagship scheme, Unit Scheme 64 (US-64), has the largest NPA of Rs 650 crore, accounting for 4.69 per cent of the total corpus of Rs 13,863 crore. US 71 has the second largest with NPAs of Rs 513 crore, or 12.10 per cent of the corpus of Rs 4,234 crore.

 

The 17 monthly income plans (MIPs), the family of UTI's assured income schemes, house 46.5 per cent of the total NPAs. These MIP schemes have NPAs of Rs 1,620 crore which amounts to 10.58 per cent of the total MIP corpus of Rs 15,314 crore.
