Nearly 68 percent of Middle East audiences believe films or other entertainment programmes should be banned altogether if they are found offensive, a new survey has found.
The survey conducted by Northwestern University, Qatar, found that nearly 34 percent audiences find Hollywood Content 'morally harmful'.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, nearly 70 percent of Middle East people want greater regulation of romantic and violent movies and 68 percent of them believe films or other entertainment programs should be banned altogether if they are found offensive.
65 percent of residents in six Arab countries; Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates reportedly want more content portraying their own culture and history.
Northwestern University CEO and dean, Everette E. Dennis said that these findings reflect how Arab World is coping with globalization and grappling to preserve local culture.
These findings show that people in Arab wants more of local entertainment, which reflects their culture and less of the entertainment from Hollywood.
