Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Tuesday addressed a function here that marked the Golden Jubilee of the India-Pakistan War.

He said that a nation that remembers its history and its martyrs is a developed and secured country.

"It is a pleasure for me to inaugurate and see this exhibition, because a nation which remembers its history and its martyrs, is a nation which develops and is secured. I feel very confident today that the country is secured in your hands," Parrikar said.

"Today, I am very happy that the country is remembering the 1965 martyrs. Abdul Hamid was a name I could never forget. This was the first major war we won," he added.

The Indian Armed Forces have organised a series of events to mark the Golden Jubilee of the 1965 Indo - Pak War. A total of six events have been organised to pay tribute to the collective resolve of the nation and the valour and sacrifice of the armed forces.
