ABC's Australia Network Asian broadcasting service could be axed from Australia.

The Abbott government could axe the service in the May budget, accusing the channel of acting against Australia.

According to news.com.au, the cabinet is planning to end the public broadcaster's contract to provide Australian news and entertainment to the region.

The network provides television services across the Asia-Pacific region, but also is used as a medium to build goodwill overseas through news and entertainment.

However, cabinet ministers believe ABC's coverage of Australia is negative and fails to promote the nation as originally intended in the Australia Network's charter, the report added.
