A hit man convicted of murdering Anni Dewani, the wife of a British man Shrien Dewani, has claimed that he was told by the man that he had 'wanted his spouse dead'.

Mziwamadoda Qwabe told a South African court that he had demanded 830 pounds for the contract and spent a day plotting the murder.

Qwabe also said that he was told by Dewani's hired taxi driver about the offer and who needed to be killed.

Dewani has been accused of orchestrating the murder of his wife during their honeymoon in Cape Town by hiring three South Africans. Qwabe is one of the three men.

Dewani has denied the charges claiming that the two were hijacked at gunpoint as they drove through Gugulethu in a taxi.

He escaped unharmed but his wife's body was found in the abandoned car the next day.

The three South Africans involved in the murder have been tried and convicted and are serving jail sentences between 18 years and life.
