Army apprehends one cadre each of NDFB(S), RNLF in separate ops

On the eve of the first phase of the assembly elections, the Indian Army in a joint operation with the Assam Police apprehended one Rabha National Liberation Front (RNLF) cadre from north Salmara area in Bongaigaon district on Sunday.

The apprehended RNLF cadre has been identified as Sunil Rabha alias Chinese, who had joined the group in 2005 and was trained in Parbatjhora in Kokrajhar district, said Lieutenant Colonel Suneet Newton, Public Relation Officer (Defence), in a statement issued here on Sunday.

One 7.65mm pistol with magazine, some live rounds, one RNLF letter pad and some currency were seized from Rabha, he said.

 

Based on specific information from the army's Intelligence Unit on movement of a National Democratic Front of Boroland (Songbijit) cadre, an army team and the Assam Police in another operation launched a joint operation on Saturday and arrested the NDFB (S) cadre, who was moving through Rampur village.

The cadre has been identified as Samar Ramchiary, alias, B. Bathaou, of Nutan Sripur village under Mushalpur Police Station in Baksa district of Assam.

One 7.65mm pistol, five live rounds of 7.65mm, one No 36 hand grenade and Rs. 8,050 cash were seized from Ramchiary, said the Defence PRO.

The apprehended cadre was handed over to the Mushalpur Police, said the Defence PRO, adding that the apprehension is significant for thwarting the subversive plans of NDFB (S) during the democratic process underway.

He added that the army is carrying out extensive area domination day-night to avert any mishap in the run up to the assembly elections.
