Former England opener Geoffrey Boycott has lashed out at the way English cricket has been run lately, saying it amounted to a "shambles," ahead of this week's first Test against New Zealand.

According to Sport24, Boycott wrote in his column for Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper that the last six months had been "traumatic" for England and that English cricket had been "poor."

England exited the World Cup at the group stage and then managed a 1-1 Test series draw in the Caribbean against a West Indies side tagged "mediocre" by new England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Colin Graves.
