Australian rugby player Anthony Watts has reportedly denied that he bit the penis of an opponent player and added that he will appeal against the eight-game ban, which was handed to him over the incident.
The former National Rugby League (NRL) was suspended last week by the Gold Coast Rugby League over claims that he bit the penis of a player from Bilambil Jets while playing for Tugun Seahawks on September 2.
According to Stuff.co.nz, the incident has attracted worldwide notoriety for Watts and even inspired a Taiwanese animation, although Watts has claimed that he is innocent of the charge, saying that there was no way that he bit the penis of the player as he was wearing a mouthguard.
Stating that the claim is laughable, Watts also said that people close to him know that he is innocent, adding that although he has been through a lot in his career, he felt like 's***house' to be at the centre of such an incident.
Watts also said that even though there is no evidence to back up the charge against him, he unfortunately would always be notorious for the incident.
Watts, whose NRL career ended in 2011 when he was dumped by Sydney Roosters for disciplinary reasons, was reportedly also arrested for being drunk and disorderly and found in possession of cocaine.
However, the player claimed that such charges were a part of a campaign to drive him out of the game, saying that there have many incidents in the past when other players have made false claims against him, adding that he is targeted unfairly most of the times.
