All food business operators have been told to strictly adhere by the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulation, 2011, which enjoins them to ensure testing of their products for relevant chemical and/or microbiological contaminants.
According to a government statement, every food business operator in the country has to follow and comply with Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, Rules and Regulations.
Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Shripad Yesso Naik was quoted, as saying in the statement that safety standards have been notified in respect of around 365 categories of food products.
These standards are enforced by the Food Safety Departments of the States/UTs.
Naik was stating this in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha here today.
