India, Sri Lanka ink MoU on Nalanda University and cultural cooperation

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked on Monday by India and Sri Lanka for the establishment of Nalanda University.

The MoU would facilitate Sri Lanka's participation in the Nalanda University Project.

The MoU was signed by the foreign secretaries of the two nations, S. Jaishankar and Chitranganee Wagiswara.

The two sides also signed an agreement on the Programme of Cultural Cooperation for the years 2015 to 2018.

This agreement seeks to enhance the level of cooperation in a wide variety of fields such as performing arts, visual arts, libraries, museums, archives and cultural documentation, archaeology, handicrafts, publications and professional exchanges.

It was signed by Culture Secretary Ravindra Singh and Sri Lanka's High Commissioner to India Sudharshan Seneviratne.

 

The agreements were signed after talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena.
