Jailed Chinese activist Xu appeals for united fight against corruption

Chinese civil rights campaigner Xu Zhiyong has made an appeal from his prison cell calling the citizens to unite in pursuing democratic freedom and end corruption in the society.
BBC reports that Xu said in a video message that this country needs brave citizens who can stand up and hold fast to their convictions.
The legal activist was detained on July 16 for disrupting public order, while he was campaigning against corrupt officials in the country.
Xu also said that he was willing to sacrifice anything for freedom, public good and faith.
The Beijing-based activist had earlier called for government transparency and for officials to reveal their assets.
