Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kalyan Singh, who has been a former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, said that the law and order situation in the state is grim.

"There is no government in place (Uttar Pradesh). Criminal activities are on the rise. The security of women and girls are not safe anymore. Therefore the government does not have any moral right to stay in power," Singh said.

Critics of Akhilesh Yadav point out that crime against women in the state have increased considerably and the Badaun gang-rape case against minor girls who were found hanging from trees being the highlight.

Also there have been instances of violence against political leaders of opposition parties.
