Karnataka train derailment: President Mukherjee condoles loss of lives

President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday condoled the loss of lives on account of the derailing of the Bangalore-Ernakulam Inter City Express near Anekal in Karnataka.

In his message to Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala, the President called for the authorities to provide all possible assistance to the families of the victims.

"I am saddened to learn about the derailment of a train near Anekal Road, Bengaluru this morning, in which some persons have lost their lives and many others are injured. I understand rescue and relief operations are currently underway," his message read.

"I call upon the State Government and Railway authorities to provide all possible assistance to the bereaved families as well as the best of medical attention to the injured. Please convey my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. I wish speedy recovery to the injured persons," he added.

 

Railways officials had earlier in the day confirmed that ten persons had lost their lives in the accident, with around 17 others critically injured.

The mishap took place at around 7.45 a.m., between the Hosur and Anekal Road stations.
