Chinese player Li Na has become the fifth player to qualify for the year ending WTA Championships to be held in Istanbul from October 22-27, 2013.
According to TennisWorldUSA.org, Li became the fifth player to meet the qualification requirements, after Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova and Agnieszka Radwanska.
Chairman and CEO of the WTA, Stacey Allaster congratulated the player for securing the spot.
She said that Li's personality and exciting brand of tennis endeared her to tennis fans around the world, as she continued to inspire generations of tennis players.
Known to be the most prestigious WTA event, the tournament offers mammoth prize money of 6 million dollars, the report said.

Li said that she was happy to have qualified again for TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships as one of the Top 8 players this season.
She said that she had a great time in the tournament in Istanbul last year and was looking forward to coming back and playing her best tennis for the fans in Turkey.
This would the Chinese' third consecutive appearance at the tournament in Turkey, the report added.
