Metro construction over the PAC Campus on Kanpur Road in Uttar Pradesh commenced on Friday and is expected to be completed by 2016.
"We will try our best that the metro is constructed on time, and I am sure that it will, because it is a big deal for us. We hope that within two years the metro will start functioning," said Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
"We have already got them constructed in Noida and Ghaziabad. Our party will try its best to construct metros in all the developing cities in UP. I am sure that a lot of people will benefit from it," he added.
A 'bhoomi pujan' was conducted by Yadav today to give an auspicious start to the project.
Uttar Pradesh Urban Development Minister Azam Khan and Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation's MD Kumar Keshav were also present at the gathering.
