Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati on Friday promised to restore law and order in Uttar Pradesh if she came to power through a mid-term poll in the state.
In an exclusive interview with ANI, Mayawati said, "If mid-term polls are announced in UP, I promise the people that law and order will be re-established and womens' honour will be restored. After that, development will be a priority of our government."
She also said that the present SP government in the state has failed miserably, especially on the law and order front.
"Crime is on the rise in the state. Our women are not feeling safe here," she added.
On the Badaun rape case, Mayawati said, "I didn't go immediately to Badaun because I thought the SP Government would think I was causing trouble. I had sent my party men to visit the family of the victim and understand their problem. Afterwards, they enlightened me about the situation and then I visited the family."
