Mehbooba Mufti, the President of the Peoples Democratic Party, on Thursday appealed to the NDA Government to adopt the policies of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee with regard to relations with Pakistan.

"I think the Centre should follow the policies of Vajpayee and come forward to engage in a dialogue with Pakistan, because, this firing is killing people on both sides," said Mufti.

"People in these border villages need development and that can only come after peace is restored in the area," she added.

She also expressed her grief over the crisis of infrastructure in the border areas after meeting the people.

"The infrastructure of Kashmir has been disturbed after the floods, but the condition of roads and other infrastructure in the border areas is even worse," she added.

Mufti reiterated her support for people in restoring the peace in the border areas.
