Most Americans opposed to country's military intervention in Syria

A majority of Americans are opposed to Washington's military intervention in Syria as senior administration officials are discussing a number of options for the war-torn country, a new poll has found.

According to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll, about 60 percent of Americans said the United States should not intervene in Syria's civil war, as compared to just nine percent who thought President Barack Obama should act.

The poll found that that majority opposition holds even in the face of evidence that chemical weapons have been used in Syria, the Christian Science Monitor reports.

The new poll, and previous surveys by other news organizations showing similar anti-war sentiments, have not let Obama off the political hook on Syria.
