Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman Qazi M. Khalilullah has rejected a Sunday Times report about nuclear deal being inked between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. He said there was no truth to such reports.
"Pakistan is aware of its responsibilities as a nuclear state. Pakistan's nuclear programme is meant for its security and there is a strong command and control system over it," the Dawn quoted Khalilullah, as saying.
A report had claimed that Saudi Arabia wanted to purchase an "off the shelf nuclear weapon" from Pakistan to counter Iran after it strikes a nuclear deal with the west.
It also quoted an unnamed Pentagon official as alleging that an agreement had been reached between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to move forward on the issue, reported The Express Tribune.
A U.S. State Department official pointed out that Saudi Arabia was a signatory of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.
Saudi Arabia has rejected such reports.
