US President Barack Obama has reportedly said that a majority of black people do not use racism as an excuse.
According to The Washington Timres, before flying off to Hawaii for a two-week vacation, Obama said Friday that most blacks understand America's history of slavery and segregation isn't an excuse for their current challenges.
On being asked to comment on the present situation of the black population in US, Obama said that most blacks were "better off now" owing to economic recovery.
However, he asserted that the income gap between whites and blacks was still an unsolved issue, adding that more work needed to be done on that front.
Obama said that majority of the black folks understood that this was not an excuse. He said that they were hustling and trying to get an education and send their kids to college.
He added that despite their efforts, they were starting behind oftentimes in the race, the report said.
