President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday urged children to put in their best efforts to contribute to the creation of a clean India, asking them to help keep their schools, classrooms, houses and surroundings clean.
Presenting the National Child Awards for Exceptional Achievement 2014 to give recognition to children with exceptional abilities and outstanding achievement in various fields, the President said that children are the future citizens of the country, adding that they should take inspiration from former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, referring to him as the 'architect of modern India'.
In total, 20 children were awarded for their exceptional achievement. In addition, four institutions and three people were awarded the National Award for Child Welfare for their outstanding performance in the field of child development and welfare and three people were awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Manav Seva Award for their outstanding contribution towards service for children.
