Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Oscar Fernandes inaugurated an art gallery at the premises of Delhi Karnataka Sangha (DKS) in the national capital.
Fernandes, speaking at the inauguration on Wednesday said the gallery exhibits art which depicts the tradition of Indian culture and has the potential of portraying the abilities and capabilities of India to the world.
President of Delhi Karnataka Sangha Vasanth Shetty Bellare said the gallery is open to all artists throughout the year to create and to exhibit their works.
Noted Kannada Scholar Professor Hampa Nagarajaiah was the chief guest of the occasion and eminent scholar Dr. Purushothama Bilimale presided over the function.
The gallery exhibits works of renowned artists like G. R. Iranna, H.G. Arun, Manjunath Kamath, Annu Naik, Deepak Guddadakeri, Siddharth P. Bettajewargi, Geetha Ramasesh, Saphal Manakapure, Sreekanth Poddar, Jyothi Poddar, Bhim Rao Murgod, Shalan Murgod, K.R. Subbanna, Apoorva Subbanna, Vilas Kulkarni, Anita Vilas Kulkarni, Sudhir Phadnis and Chennu S. Mathad.
With a carpet area of 700 square feet, the gallery, which is located in Sector 12 of R.K. Puram near the Moti Bagh flyover, will be used for production, exhibition and dissemination of artworks and ideas as well as a space for interactions, workshops and other experimental modes of cultural production.
Delhi Karnataka Sangha is a cultural organization, which has been in existence for the last 60 years. With over 4500 life members from all walks of life mainly from Delhi, it has been a center for development of cultural, social, educational and other activities pertaining to Karnataka and Kannada in the National Capital.
