ANI Islamabad

Pakistan released 57 Indian fishing boats that were in its custody on Saturday.

The Pakistan Foreign Office (FO) said in a statement the decision to release the vessels was a goodwill gesture and added that modalities for the handover were finalised with an eight-member Indian delegation that visited Karachi from March 9.

The statement said that the repatriation of the boats was discussed Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) officials.

"While the PMSA had kept the boats in good condition, it extended full support to the visiting team in making the boats seaworthy after minor repairs. Subsequently, the boats were towed to the maritime boundary today, where these were physically taken over by the Indian side," the statement revealed.
