The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government in Pakistan has approved the setting up a special security force of 4,200 policemen for the security of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The force will safeguard routes, projects, Chinese investments and Chinese nationals in the region.

"The provincial government is taking keen interest in CPEC projects and will ensure providing better security to all investors in the best interest of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa," The Express Tribune quoted a statement issued by the home and tribal affairs department, as saying.

The statement further said that consultations on the formation and features of the CPEC Security Force have been completed by the Home and Tribal Affairs Department and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa police.

The provincial government would purchase equipment, weapons, ammunitions and vehicles worth Rs1.2 billion, reports The Express Tribune.

Manpower from different sources, including police and various other security forces would initially be inducted for the special security force on contract basis.

The Home and Tribal Affairs Department will set up a special cell to monitor the force's activities.
