The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday demanded a CBI probe into the Shamli incident, where two journalists were allegedly attacked by Samajwadi Party leader and MLA Nahid Hasan and his aides.

Calling the Akhilesh Yadav-led government in Uttar Pradesh a party of the 'Mughals', BJP leader Srikant Sharma said that there was 'gunda raj' in the state.

"Akhilesh Yadav is responsible for the deteriorating condition of Uttar Pradesh's law and order. They have issued a license for hooliganism. The condition of law and order is so bad in the state that at least ten rapes happen each day. There is a murder every half an hour. Each day, there are 17 communal incidents. In crimes against women, Uttar Pradesh tops the list.

Two journalists of a news channel were allegedly attacked by Samajwadi Party leader and MLA Nahid Hasan and his aides.

They had gone to cover the incident in which an eight-year-old boy was killed in celebratory firing by party workers in Shamli district on Sunday.

The party workers were celebrating the victory of party candidate Nafisa in the local body polls from the town.

BJP's Uttar Pradesh unit has alleged that the attack on media persons was a planned assault.
