Pizza, tinned soup, and other ready meals may soon be considered a part of five-a-day healthy foods.

Public Health England has declared that as long as the products contain at least one fruit or a vegetable ingredient, they may qualify for "amber warning lights" for sugar, fat or salt to use the 5-a-day logo, the Daily Express reported.

According to National Diet and Nutrition Survey results, the average adult aged 19 to 64 ate 4.1 portions of fruit or vegetables daily, while just seven per cent of teenage girls and 10 per cent of boys managed five.

However, Tam Fry, of the National Obesity Forum, said that the idea was "disgraceful" adding that it sent mixed messages since such foods are usually laced with sugar or fat.
