Spain's new Davis Cup captain Gala Leon Garcia has dismissed 'sexist' debate about her appointment on Tuesday after Rafael Nadal's coach Toni Nadal made 'sexist' remarks against her.

Toni Nadal said that it was preferable for the captain to have an experience in men's tennis and that he had nothing against the newly appointed captain.

He also said that he was not being chauvinist and anyone who said that did not know the meaning of the word.

Leon said, pointing to the controversy, that everyone was entitled to an opinion and that she was there to help the Davis Cup team return to the World Cup.

According to News24, the appointment of Leon immediately led to a flood of criticism in Spain, including from Rafael Nadal's uncle.
