A goldsmith from Coimbatore has designed a golden helmet out of 250mg gold to create awareness amongst people to wear helmet while riding.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu High Court has made the wearing of helmets by riders mandatory.
In support of the court's decision, the goldsmith, Mariappan, took the oppurtinity to create the golden helmet.
According to Mariappan, many people lose their lives in accidents by ignoring the basic safety by not wearing helmets, and succumb to head injuries.
It took the goldsmith more than 12 hours to forge the golden helmet.
Mariappan wants to send out the message that life is more precious than gold by creating this helmet.
