ANI London

The United States has launched airstrikes in Iraq as a response to Islamic State attacks on Iraqi troops, say U.S. military officials.

Officials said that the attacks were carried out on Sunday and Monday near Mount Sinjar and south-west of Baghdad.

Meanwhile Iraqi government has condemned the decision of excluding Iraq from an international coalition headed by the U.S. to fight IS militants.

The country's foreign minister said that the decision of excluding Iran was 'regrettable'.

According to the BBC, the global coalition will be joined by thirty countries who will now fight against IS fighters.
