Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday said the government had written to chief justices of High Courts to expedite the process of filling up judicial vacancies.
Prasad said 200 posts were vacant for High Court judges and 4,000 posts were vacant in difference district courts of India, adding that government would enhance number of High Court judges by 20 percent.
"There are 200 vacancies for the High Court judges in the country. I have urged the chief justice to expedite it. We are going to increase number of judges in the high court by 20 percent. We will have discussed to expedite it. The number of High Court judges is 906 and we are going to raise it to 1,120," Prasad said.
The Law minister added that government would fast track criminal cases of women, children, specially-abled and would scrap irrelevant laws.
"4,000 posts are vacant in difference district courts of India. I have asked for its recruitment. Apart from it I have made one more effort, criminal cases of women, children, specially-abled, should be fast tracked. We have urged the Law Commission to a give a list of irrelevant laws which could be removed from statute books," he added.
