The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Hukum Singh who claimed mass exodus of Hindu families from Kairana village of Shamli district on Tuesday said that raising this issue at a time when Uttar Pradesh polls are around the corner is not a political stunt as he has been voicing his concern in this regard in the state assembly in the past as well.

Addressing a press conference Singh said, "These incidents started from 2013 and since then our party MLAs have been raising our voice against this in the assembly. You can go and check the assembly record where we had raised this issue."

Assuring that no riots will take place because of his claim , Singh further said that he stands by the list he has produced.

"No riots will take place, I assure you following my statement. I stand by names mentioned in the list. However, I am always subject to correction," Singh Said.

However, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav advised the BJP to indulge in constructive work rather than indulging in petty politics for electoral gains in next year's assembly polls.

"The BJP is saying the Samajwadi Party workers are chasing away the people in Kairana. How corrupt these BJP members can be? The list provided by the BJP on Kairana must be scrutinized. Many fled years ago when the Samajwadi Party wasn't even in power," Akhilesh told the media here.

Singh had earlier reportedly said that the Hindus were being forced to leave their homes in the Muslim-majority town in Uttar Pradesh.

According to reports, the police have ordered a probe into the alleged migration after Singh presented a list of 346 families from the Muslim-majority town while claiming that they had to leave their homes after attacks and extortion attempts.
