As the Islamic State (IS) fighters advanced in the Syrian town of Kobane, the United States has warned that air strikes alone cannot save the town from falling into the hands of the extremists.
The U.S. military said that its air strikes had destroyed IS positions but warned that Kobane "could be taken" by the group, reported the BBC.
A Kurdish leader confirmed that IS militants had entered parts of the city amid heavy fighting.
If the group captures Kobane, it would gain a complete control over a stretch of more than 100 kilometers between Raqqa, Syria and Turkey.
Three weeks of fighting in the city that is located on the Syrian-Turkish border has claimed 400 lives and compelled more than 160,000 Syrians to seek refuge in Turkey.
