A letter from the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has reportedly revealed that American sprinter Tyson Gay's failed drugs test was for a banned steroid, which may result in a two-year ban.
According to the Guardian, Gay confirmed last month that he had failed a doping test at the United States' world championship trials in June and at an out-of-competition test in May, but the substance that he tested positive for was not disclosed.
The report further said that extracts from the USADA letter said that by using carbon isotope ratio analysis, it was found that Gay's samples had an adverse analytical finding, which reflected values that are consistent with the administration of a steroid of external nature.
However, the report said that the USADA letter referred to the substance found during the June test.
Meanwhile, Gay had said that he had been 'let down' by someone he trusted and hoped that he will be able to run again, although he added that he is ready to accept any punishment he gets 'like a man'.
