Visakhapatnam temple authorities adorn idols with currency notes and gold ornaments

Authorities at a temple in Vishakapatnam, today adorned its idols with currency notes and gold ornaments worth Rs 1.20 crores as part of the ten-day festival of Durga Puja.

The Vasavi Kanyaka Parameshwari Temple, which is 132-years-old, had around 250 donors, mainly businessmen and chartered accountants, donate currency notes worth rupees 2.5 million.

"Being the seventh day of the Dusshera Sharad Navrati, today we are celebrating the goddess of Laxmi Avatharam. The Mahalaxmi Avatharam belongs to the assets property and finance. Today, the goddess is being decorated by the Indian currency of over rupees 2.5 millions. This 2.5 million of rupees in sealed new notes are being contributed by 250 donors," said an organizer Ramakrishna.

 

The money donated will be returned to the owners, who consider it auspicious to donate currency so that their businesses will be fruitful and earn revenue during the year.

Meanwhile, Kolkata was filled with pandals, housing beautiful idols of Goddess Durga, where devotees were immersed in the festivities.

Organizers of the Ekdalia Evergreen pandal adorned their idols with pure gold ornaments as crowds thronged to worship them.

"Every year we try to put anything special. This year also we have tried to do something special. Actually it's a unique thing. You can see the Durga image (idol), all the decorations all the jewellery of goddess Durga is made of pure gold, 22 carat gold," said another organizer Gautam Mukherjee.
