Telecom stocks edge lower
Telecom stocks were trading in red, with the S&P BSE Telecom index decreasing 49.09 points or 5.34% at 870.74 at 13:47 IST.
Among the components of the S&P BSE Telecom index, Vodafone Idea Ltd (down 8.83%), Bharti Infratel Ltd (down 8.7%), Bharti Airtel Ltd (down 4.9%), OnMobile Global Ltd (down 3.51%), Reliance Communications Ltd (down 1.45%), and HFCL Ltd (down 0.58%), were the top losers.
On the other hand, ITI Ltd (up 5.4%), GTL Infrastructure Ltd (up 5%), and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (up 4.99%) advanced.
At 13:47 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 588.05 or 1.5% at 39,838.25.
The Nifty 50 index was up 165.8 points or 1.43% at 11,792.95.
The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 89.42 points or 0.67% at 13,399.72.
The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was up 50.61 points or 1.11% at 4,598.43.
On BSE,1,357 shares were trading in green, 934 were trading in red and 189 were unchanged.
