Telecom stocks edge higher
Telecom stocks were trading in green, with the S&P BSE Telecom index increasing 27.43 points or 2.9% at 973.51 at 09:47 IST.
Among the components of the S&P BSE Telecom index, Vodafone Idea Ltd (up 4.28%), Reliance Communications Ltd (up 3.9%),Bharti Airtel Ltd (up 3.8%),Sterlite Technologies Ltd (up 2.81%),Vindhya Telelinks Ltd (up 2.2%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were Tejas Networks Ltd (up 1.8%), Bharti Infratel Ltd (up 0.53%), and ITI Ltd (up 0.24%).
On the other hand, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (down 5.12%), Optiemus Infracom Ltd (down 4.95%), and GTL Infrastructure Ltd (down 3.39%) turned lower.
At 09:47 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 144.76 or 0.38% at 38033.19.
The Nifty 50 index was down 43.05 points or 0.38% at 11270.25.
The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was down 5.87 points or 0.05% at 12790.6.
The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was down 18.78 points or 0.43% at 4330.6.
On BSE,595 shares were trading in green, 707 were trading in red and 69 were unchanged.
