China's top leadership on Friday passed an overall programme on reforming the ecological progress mechanism.
Reforming the ecological progress mechanism are indispensable in China's further comprehensive reforms, said a statement issued after a meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), chaired by President Xi Jinping, Xinhua news agency reported.
To boost ecological progress, the country should respect nature, adjust to nature and protect nature.
Economic development and environmental protection should be coordinated, the statement said.
The statement called for international cooperation in promoting ecological progress.
A fundamental framework must be built to boost such reforms, including a clear ownership system of natural resource assets, an ecological compensation system, an ecological evaluation system and a responsibility system, it added.
